About Dentistry in Western Trust
Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western HSCT) is the largest trust by geographic area, serving a population of approximately 305,500 across Derry/Londonderry, Fermanagh, and Tyrone. With 50 general NHS practices, Western Trust provides dental care across a dispersed, largely rural population. Derry/Londonderry is the main hub with 16 practices, followed by Enniskillen and Omagh with 8 each.
Access to Dental Care: Western Trust covers a large rural area with some geographic challenges. Urban centres like Enniskillen and Omagh have reasonable practice density, while more remote villages in Fermanagh and Tyrone may require travel to access dentistry. The Dental Access Scheme and Emergency Dental Service provide important backup for residents with limited local options. Many practices serve broad catchment areas to accommodate geographically dispersed populations.
Key Points: Derry/Londonderry is the largest dental hub in Western Trust with 16 practices. Enniskillen is the focal point for Fermanagh residents with 8 practices. Omagh serves Tyrone well, also with 8 practices. Strabane and Limavady offer additional options. Use our search tool with your postcode to find the nearest practices for your location. Many practices will accept patients from surrounding villages, so don't limit your search to your exact town.
